Overview
Rezon Studio developed a concept restaurant, Amissus, based on the despair-filled story of a chef who got lost in the jungle, alone, for several days.
Custom illustrations capture seven pivotal moments in Adrian's journey, made using negative space art that blends crucial parts of his survival with the never-ending wilderness.
From up close, they show a wildness that was always there. From a distance, they reveal something far more intimate and important—a droplet of water symbolizing panic, a knife curled in hand on a sleepless night, a deer carcass consumed in desperation, etc.
The color palette shifts course by course, mood by mood—yellowed anxiety, void-like blue despair, tricking green, pale feverish olive, blood-red surrender, hollowed-out cyan, gentle unimaginable violet.
Amissus is a Latin word that means “lost,” signifying not only being lost in the wild but also losing oneself—hope after hope, and his humanity. The logo mark is a deer skull, representing the lowest and most horrifying moment when he ate a dead, rotting deer to survive. This skeletal symbol becomes an emblem of life’s fragility and the wildness beneath the surface of all men.
The seven-course menu explores everything he ate to survive, in storytelling format—from his first moment of being lost to his dreariest moment, and finally, the first thing he received after being rescued.
Each dish was named to reflect his emotion and moment. The menu is strapped in leather, accompanied by the illustration depicting what happened around it.
