Blacwom is a professional hair care and treatment brand created for hair care professionals and their clients. Founded by industry veterans who deeply value the expertise and craft of hair professionals, the brand offers a range of shampoos, masques, and specialized treatments designed for different hair needs, including chemically treated, curly, dry, and frizzy hair.

Unlike mass-market hair care brands, Blacwom products are professionally prescribed, used by hair experts, and exclusively distributed through luxury salons. This required a brand that not only reflected premium quality but also earned the trust and respect of professionals who serve as the primary decision-makers and advocates for the products.

As a new entrant in a category dominated by established global brands, Blacwom needed a strong strategic foundation that would differentiate it from competitors while creating a cohesive experience across every customer touchpoint—from packaging and education materials to social media and salon communication.

Understanding the Market

We identified the primary and secondary competitors of the brand and conducted a comprehensive competitive and visual audit of each.

Competitive Audit: Examined target audience, market segment, price point, popularity, market share, USP, positioning, messaging, tone of voice, strengths, weaknesses, and more.

Visual Audit: Analyzed look and feel, typeface, color palette, icon/logotype, product shape, packaging design, and other visual elements.

Positioning the Brand as the One-and-Only

After analyzing the market and auditing competitors, we conducted target audience research to understand demographics, psychographics, pains, needs, and motivations. Discovery sessions with the Blacwom founders provided insights into their brand values, ethics, and vision for the future.

From these insights, we developed a brand platform that positioned Blacwom as the only hair care brand that does things their way, crafting messaging designed to create not just customers, but brand advocates.

Crafting the Brand

Building on the brand foundation, personality, target audience, and competitive differentiation, we presented multiple mood boards to explore different visual directions for the brand design.

The selected visual identity reflects luxury, elegance, and professionalism:

  • Heading fonts convey a modern yet luxurious look.

  • Subheading fonts are chosen to attract attention and highlight key information.

  • Body fonts are clean and highly readable, even in content-heavy contexts.

  • The royal blue color palette, supported by lighter shades, evokes gentleness, trust, and professionalism.

  • The blue ribbon element featured across product packaging and brand collateral symbolizes a strong, continuous connection with hair care professionals, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to supporting them beyond the point of purchase.


Packaging Design

Design Experimentation Till Perfection

We explored multiple packaging concepts, styles, and design variations to identify the solution that best aligned with the brand’s premium positioning while meeting the practical requirements of a professional hair care range.

The final design was selected based on several key criteria:

  • Easy readability and clear distinction between product labels.

  • Scalability across multiple container sizes, ranging from 50ml to 1000ml.

  • Compatibility with different packaging materials, finishes, and container textures.

  • Clear communication of product benefits, ingredients, and key information.

  • The ability to present large amounts of content in a structured and easy-to-navigate manner.

The result is a packaging system that balances luxury and functionality, ensuring consistency across the product range while making information accessible to both professionals and consumers.
